Al timone artistico di questa grande avventura esplorativa, curatore ospite e presidente della giuria che ha selezionato i progetti partecipanti, Bruce Sterling, l'autore cult di science fiction inventore del genere cyberpunk. Ospite a Torino per sei mesi, immerso nell'atmosfera in fermento della città, Sterling collabora attivamente alla direzione del Piemonte Share Festival e ne racconterà gli umori, restituendo al pubblico la visione personale di un contesto che nei prossimi anni verrà ricordato per una vivacità esemplare. Ingresso gratuito a tutte le iniziative. °°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°°° Manufacturing Argomento trasversale dell'edizione 2008 del Festival, che influenzerà i contenuti di conferenze, tavole rotonde, workshop e performance è quello della nuova materialità dell'arte digitale. Perché se negli anni 90 la net art è nata dal bisogno di spingersi oltre i propri limiti e il fenomeno richiamava l'immateriale, addirittura minacciava la dimensione del reale, oggi la società si rapporta alle tecnologie con naturalezza, lasciando che l'immateriale diventi reale, sperimentando sempre nuove interazioni intelligenti tra uomo e macchina, che nel frattempo si è completamente integrata nella vita quotidiana. Nel nuovo millennio uomo e macchina si rapportano allo stesso livello, interagiscono in un ambiente esterno che plasmano a loro piacimento cambiandone le caratteristiche: Piemonte Share Festival è una manifestazione internazionale che risponde al bisogno culturale di fotografare e fermare nel tempo cosa sta succedendo nel panorama mondiale delle nuove tecnologie applicate all'arte e al design. A causa dei recenti sviluppi della tecnologia per la fabbricazione digitale, la manifattura sta diventando un'impresa che riguarda anche l'arte e la cultura digitale. L'esplosivo avvento di stampanti 3D, di strumentazioni per la prototipazione rapida e per la fabbricazione rapida è di profonda importanza per una manifestazione come Share Festival, per le sue potenzialità di creazione di oggetti fisici da parte di laboratori, studio o atelier di artisti technodigitali. Share Festival ha scelto il tema "Manufacturing" per la sua quarta edizione per due importanti ragioni. The festival promises to be at the cutting edge of the vast cultural programme of events lined up for the city currently brandishing the title 2008 World Design Capital. Steering us round this wonderful artistic adventure is Bruce Sterling, guest curator and chairman of the jury that has selected the work on show. Better known for his science fiction writing and inventor of the cyberpunk genre, he is currently a guest in Turin for six months, actively involved in raising the temperature in this ferment. He will also supply the public with regular personal rundowns on goings-on at the Piemonte Share Festival, which is set to become a year to remember. Because of recent advances in digital fabrication technology, manufacturing is becoming a digital art and culture enterprise. The exciting advent of 3d printing, rapid prototyping, and rapid manufacturing is of profound importance to SHARE, for it bring the power to create physical objects to the techno-artist's lab-bench, studio and atelier. It means that digital artists, whose work was once mostly virtual, can create in the actual. SHARE has chosen the theme "Manufacturing" for its 2008 event for two compelling reasons. First, we want to demonstrate digital manufacturing to our core audience, who are very technically adept people, but not used to the idea that they can create real objects with CAD, fabricators and the Internet. The second reason is that Torino is the World Capital of Design 2008. Torino is a strong manufacturing center.
